City Adds Cartons to the Drop-off Recycling Program

The City of Denton announced the expansion of its Recycling Drop-off Centers to include food and beverage cartons. Residents can now recycle coated paper cartons, such as milk cartons, and aseptic packaging, such as juice and soy milk boxes, to be recycled at any of the four City of Denton Recycling Drop-off Centers.

“We are very excited to be the first city in Texas able to accept these kinds of cartons for recycling!” said Shirlene Sitton, Recycling Division Manager for the City of Denton. “Through innovative partnerships with both Tetra Pak and Pratt Recycling, located here in Denton, we have been able to expand our recycling program again, and give our citizens the best access to recycling possible.”

“The City of Denton strives to be as environmentally responsible as possible,” said Mayor Mark Burroughs. “This initiative by the Carton Council has allowed our city to recycle more and waste less by adding cartons to our drop-off recycling program, and to show that Denton leads the way in Texas for waste-diversion programs.”

Currently, carton recycling is only available at the Recycling Drop-off Centers where residents can sort cartons separately from other accepted materials. At this time, sorting technology does not separate the cartons from other single-stream recyclable materials, so they cannot currently be put in the curbside recycling carts. The four Recycling Drop-off Centers are located at North Lakes Park, Cupboard Natural Foods & Cafe, Shady Oaks at Dallas Drive, and the City of Denton Landfill.

Texas Trade Up Appliance Rebate Program

Texas residents who qualified for appliance rebates are eligible for up to two recycling bonus rebates per household from the eligible appliance list. If you have received a rebate and would like to recycle your appliance to qualify for the recycling bonus rebate, bring the eligible appliance and the rebate form to City of Denton Landfill. Recycling bonus rebates will not be applicable for appliances collected curbside. Appliance recycling is free of charge. A removal fee of $50 will apply only to appliances containing CFCs or PCBs, such as refrigerators and air conditioners.
